Thousands get expanded childcare in Yorkshire and the Humber

New figures show that 52,878 children across the region are now in funded childcare places under the government’s 30 hours offer, part of a national total of 530,000.

The scheme, which surpasses the original target of 500,000, is designed to support parents returning to work and to improve access to early education.

Bridget Phillipson, education secretary, said: “When we launched the 30 hours childcare expansion at the start of September, we said around half a million families were on track to benefit.
